2019 Asylum Seekers International Scholarship for Undergraduates at Ulster University in Ireland

scholarships are open to students applying to study a three-year full-time undergraduate degree in academic year 2019/20 and who do not have access to student finance.
Ulster University offers the expertise, abilities and trust that will allow students to meet a job Requirement.

Worth of Award
Prospective candidates will be awarded the Scholarship Award:
  • Tuition Fee Grant: Successful students will be offered a tuition fee-remitted (i.e. no fees) place at university for a maximum of three years or until such time as they are awarded status that entitles them to access student finance (if at all).
  • A Travel and Course Costs Grant: Successful students will be offered a £500 a year (per year if applicable) grant to help with travel and course costs.
  • Ulster University will not be able to provide any financial support for accommodation or living costs. Students should only apply if they are able to fund these costs independently during their university course. Students will need to provide evidence of this.
Eligibility
  • Applicants must have the ‘right to study’ in the UK included within their immigration status by the time of the Scholarship closing date.
  • To qualify, applicants must first apply to an eligible undergraduate degree programme via UCAS and receive a conditional or unconditional offer to study at Ulster University for September 2019 entry by the deadline.
  • Please also note that you have to apply through UCAS for your university place AND to Ulster University for the Scholarship by completing the online application form.
And:
  • Applicants must have applied for asylum in Northern Ireland before applying for a place at University and must be currently resident in Northern Ireland, to be considered for a scholarship;
  • Be a dependant of someone with discretionary or limited leave to remain as a result of an application for refugee status
OR
  • You or your parent/guardian have submitted an asylum application and not yet received a decision from the Home Office on your application.
  • You are not eligible for mainstream UK student funding due to your immigration status i.e you are not eligible for student finance for 2019/20 academic year.
  • You must not have completed an undergraduate degree previously.
  • You must live within a commutable distance to the Ulster University campus offering the course you have applied to.
  • You must confirm that you do not require support for living expenses or accommodation.
  • You must hold a conditional or unconditional offer OR have ‘decision pending’, status from Ulster University by April 2019. You will also be required to meet any academic and language conditions attached to your offer.
  • Candidates must satisfy these strict eligibility criteria and be able to check their conditions to apply. 

Note that Candidates who do not fulfill the requirements for the scholarship will not be regarded.
